Mallorca boasts some of the best locations for snorkelling, sailing, surfing, swimming and diving in the Mediterranean. The deep waters around the island are calm and warm. Mallorca is unique in that it is the only location in the world where the sea bed temperature never falls below 55F or 13C. The lowest surface temperatures occur in winter and are around 57F or 14C in January. Summer water temperatures reach a high of approximately 79F or 26C in August, which is a real treat for swimmers and divers who enjoy the ‘warm bath’ experience.

Best time to visit Mallorca

Mallorca is an excellent choice at any time of year, although the most popular time is undoubtedly the summer months from May to late September. Land temperatures in January tend to be around 59F or 15C which is mild and pleasant, though seasonal storms mean that you may want to pack a waterproof coat. The typical Mediterranean climate is defined by dry, hot summers and temperatures of up to 86F or 30C in August so be sure to pack light, cotton clothing and plenty of sunscreen.

There is much to appeal to all ages on Mallorca. The capital city, Palma has exclusive luxury shopping alongside historical attractions including Le Seu and the wonderful old town. Cala Major and S’Arenal in Palma are among the busiest beaches, and offer everything from jet skis and pedalloes to wind surfing and sailing. Mallorca has several spectacular cave systems, and the Caves of Drach present classical music recitals in a unique setting during summer.

Alcudia in the north of the island has a wide, clean beach and children will love the local hydropark. The picturesque town is also close to the Roman remains at Pollentia and to the wetland reserve of Albufera National Park. Nearby, Cap de Pinar is a real treat and you’re certain to enjoy swimming, sailing or surfing at exquisite pine tree fringed beaches sheltered by the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana.
