South Padre Island lies right at the tip of Padre Island in Texas, and the resort has some of the best beaches on the Gulf of Mexico coast. Summer is perfect for surfing and swimming and warm bath temperatures of around 82F or 28C to 86F or 30C in mid August are to be expected. The lowest temperatures are found in February with the water falling to 63F or 17C to 70F or 21°C. Surfers will probably find that a vest and board shorts are good at most times, though you may prefer a 3/2mm wetsuit on cooler February days.

There is plenty to keep you occupied at any time, and as well as fantastic beaches and water sports facilities, you can enjoy family days out at Schlitterbahn Beach Waterpark where you’ll find dozens of rides including the famous Boogie Bahn. Be sure to book a dolphin watching trip, and plan a visit to the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre. There are also dozens of bars and restaurants to choose from in this friendly resort for those who like to party well into the night.
